i think you have your wires crossed mate both the 71 and 72 sbug have the metal dash and the later 1303(73 and on) have the padded dash. the 1300 and 1500s had a padded flat dash

padded dash

The vehicle is a 1971 1302 Cabrilolet Beetle. Can someone tell me if they come out with padded dash. We bought it three quarter renovated and the padded dash was fitted, which the previous renovator may have added. Either way I would still like a padded dash. Pam

id say the padded dash was a custom after market job.

73 was the the year they put in the full padded dash like in modern cars. the 1300 and 1500 had a flat padded dash

padded dash my pic

Just to confuse the issue more this was originally imported from germany as LH drive and converted to right. Here is the pic of what is in ther at moment. Someone has put a laminate woodgrain in glovebox insert and contact on other side which I want to get changed to match the woodgrain wheel I now have in it. So guys what is it I have in here. Pam

thats a 1500 dash in that one. its most likely out of a 73-76 1300 or 1500 as some of them came with this dash so its not stock but looks nice with the wood grain

Hi

I did see them in really late 72 superbugs. I had one in my old 72, it came from a 73-75 1300, the 76 bug also had one.

Steve

This my old one,

padded dash

Thanks Steve, this is the same dash that is in mine. Now that the dash type is decided does anyone have one for sale.
Out of curiosity does anyone have a pic of the original dash that came out of a 1971 Karmann 1302 Beetle? Pam

it should be the same as the 71-72 dash but could be different as this is an import
