interesting indeed... I'm going to stick with my 20W-50 thanks... Synth is too $$$ and I believe in changing my unfiltered oil every 3000 miles
anyway.
Cheers

If You VW Engine leaks oil....
It will leak MORE Oil if Synthetic oil is used....
at least that is what I have been told....
plus the fact You would be pouring Dollars down the drain at every oil change [3000 kms]

Any air cooled VW owner use Synthetic oil ??
If We had a good oil filter , it looks like Synthetic oil would be the way to go..
I think its about $25 an oil change...$$ Castrol GTX is $9 !!
as He said.. Synthetic oil is Made & Blended to do the job..
whereas Petroleum Oils had all sorts of additives to make it work the best it would....
I read most of that oil-bible tonight.... I think He covered each subjust a few times.. and it was very complex...
but at least in everyday language....
it was strange to see that FORD in the US had recommended New fords to use 5w20 oil, because their Cars were Not getting enough MPG in the Government
tests..
with the thinner oil they just made it.... but the cars engines will wear out faster, but as most car owners sell their cars at 100,000 miles.... so
the original owners will still be OK....
I wonder if any air cooled VW owners use a Synthetic oil without an oil filter.. just the strainer...

I know a number of people who have used synthetic in their old VW's from new with no problems.
At the end of the day, this is just a good read, regular thorough maintenance is MUCH more important than the actual type of oil you use, and without
a filter in a type 1 motor it's even more important.

Its a CB Performance Maxi sump with finer gauze filter..
You can larger ones too... and Aussie made ones...
I wanted an oil filter for My engine but with the Auto pump on top of the engine oil pump... its only solution I could do..
I didn't want to go drilling and tapping MY engines oil galleries etc...

Could you please u2u me the price on that Lee?
Is the strainer cleanable and reuseable just like the fly-wcreen-wire-contraption that supposedly 'filters' oil in regular sumps?
