No Craig they just went to all the trouble of putting on the plates and a rego sticker to fool people and be the only beetle out there, Who cares if
it is or it isn't, it did a low 12 and look how simple the engine bay is, theres only a big fat disy and a pair of 48's.
You guy's have been going round in circles too long.

I was impressed when he ran 12.8 secs first run.
Then he just kept getting better and better.
I reckon the cool air helped.
Did you notice that Nice looking Porsche 911
(silver with wings)
that was there.?
Wouldnt he be embarressed to compare to the
little old Beetle. The 911 only got 12.9 secs best
from memory. (109 mph).
-
Hope we see some more VW's out there.!
Morgan had a BALL.!

what is the obsession with webers?
wouldn't properly tuned EFI be much better?
I know from speaking to these guys that the only reason they are using the IDAs is that the engine came tuned with them and EFI would be more dollars.

IDA's
Hi Pete
Your right, a well set up EFI would be better than the IDA's.
However the webers are extremely easy to change venturies, jets and tune at the track. Also easy to dismantle and clean.
And besides it's an old school thing !!!!!
There's also the cost difference between the two.
I bought my IDA's new from Manx Buggies in 1986 from memory for $495.00 [complete kit : manifolds, linkages etc]
Horses for courses, don't you think ?

What's the obcession with webers?
They're like aircooled vws: they're vintage, cool, temperamental, they resond to love and they set us apart from the modern junk.
Then there is the sound.. A well tuned weber is butter than any ICE!

yeah yeah, I can do without the temperamental, besides monster IDA throttle bodies should sound just the same, only work better,
BTW, EFI is not ICE! Just cause you like aircooled pushrod motors,
theres no need to diss all technology.
Consider this restocal, imagine a car that looks totally retro, only it has every modern go fast technology, now you have my ultimate oldschool car.
that is the sort of car that really puts ricers to shame, that is, by beating them at their own game.
However, I can see what Craig is saying about changing bits in situ.
still a good data logger and should enable you to be far more accurate with programmable EFI, still in the end it's just $$$, it just comes down to,
how fast do you want to spend...right? :o

Street cars that handled the heat better
got like 13 Runs, needless to say the no.s

But generally things are Hotting up for VW

Mr Wood,
There is an art to tuning webers.
There is no art in tuning by cheque book.
I have a modern car and it's boring. That's why I like the classic things like webers and aircooled vws.
But, like you said, each to their own.
I agree with the stock looking vw blowing away the ricer concept.
Full credit to that brown beetle. I only wish they'd paint the bonnet for that cal look rather than the rat-cal-look.

Sorry if i offended you restocal, didn't mean to, i just got a bit excited thats all. I agree with everything you said. Particularly about tuning
webers and chequebooks.
Most modern cars are bland.
I spose i just have an issue with technophile V8 meatheads, if you know what I mean. The sort of people who say anything without pushrods and carbs
and not made in the Usa is a waste of time. Now obviously vee dubbers don't fit that mould but you can see my point.
I also, know that aussies have a knack of taking things others put in the too hard basket and making them world beaters. EFI is one of those things.
In the early 90's Australia had at least 3 different aftermarket ECUs on the market long before the yanks had even considered it. In many ways they
are still catching up.
I'll get off my hobby horse now, sorry
BTW the bonnet and the bootlid are getting painted, although i though it looked kinda tough as is.
P.s. looked at ya profile, nice birthday, always worked well for me, although you are 5 years wiser than me.
