exhaust Q

I know a 40HP exhaust will fit in the tail of my 54 beetle, but will the pee shooters clear the rear valance? (since I have no cut outs?)

Whats a solution to having pipes? ( dont care what they are, just as long as the exhaust doesn't end up blowing onto the rear valance rather than under it...

help?

No the tail pipes cut into the rear valance / beaver by about 30 mm or so.

The origional 54 muffler had a single outlet and a bent tailpipe that swept down to clear the beaver.

Do you have a 36 or 40 hp engine fitted to the car ??

a decent exhaust shop might be able to bend you up some stainless pipes that will tuck under your apron

I had the local Muffler Man make these for Me...
size is 1 3/8" this fits over the original outlet pipes with 35mm cut off each outlet...

My Son MIG welded these on for Me...

cut pipes at an angle to weld to mufler outlets.

I also got My Son to mig weld the two small hot boxes for the hot air on top of the muffler so NO air escapes....
there were large gaps around these...
I have since painted everything in silver HIGH Temperature paint...

With the above tail pipes, I had to cut the pipe where it butts onto the muffler - at an angle so the pipes would clear the rear valance... The fiberglass valance goes under towards the front of the car for about 50mm so I may have to trim a bit off it... I did'nt want to cut the arches out though...
and My Wife likes the two tail pipes.....

Strange - the early Beetles had One tail Pipe and the Last Beetle [1976 model] had one tail pipe....
The last Beetles had one tail pipe as a Catalytic converter was used in some countries..[US] not sure whether any Aussie Beetles had a catalytic converter... I know they had the charcoal canister...
