Modified EJ20 Sumps Again?

Hey All,

Before I remove the sump from the engine and try my own modification...has anyone got a short sump on the market right now?

I know this has been spoken about alot, although last I heard there was a few in the pipeline, although none actually for sale...

Time is of the essence and I could spend far too long on this part of the project...I still cannot believe I got talked into painting the car...it would be running by now.(looks better though)

Mike Sharp of Sharp Built is modifying the stock sump so it's 2" shorter but with the same oil capacity for $285.

If money is no object then go for the shortened fully baffled alloy race version from MRT Rally. http://www.mrtrally.com.au/shop/
The product code is suwe120a , but at $1079.50 + GST I'll have to wait 'till I win the lotto!

If you're going to try modifying your own then there's some pics of the shortened KEP one here http://www.blabberon.com/oilpan.html

Hi,
Well we sort of hav them ... Why sort of ?? Well I have suspended the sale as we need to refine the sump bolt method. The design works very well, no surge, no issues apart from one ... Due to the shape chane you can'tget enough torque onto the rear bolts so it weaps out ....

we have worked out how to sort this and will have them back of the market for our planned EJ line release on 1 jan 05. As at 1 jan 05 they will be on teh shelf, doen on exchange basis. Kit includes everything you need such as modified pickup, gasket sealant, bolts, allen key etc.

If you want to do your own make sure you pressure test them as they have a few factory issues once you heat them up they get leaks in weird places. Also allow for the picup issues with baffles.

we managed to get 85mm back and they have now been tested and work well ..

Oh also make sure you allow for the exhaust flanges, oil filter, engine mounts and cross member and dip stick and make sure you either calculate it well or re-mark your dip stick.

You pan and pickup are being modified this week. As a result of doing Mick's Kombi we have found one minor issue with our design. You can't get enough tension on the bolts to seal the sump. We are now modifying the design for teh use of allen headed bolts so we can get more tension on them. Sorry for the delay but I would much rather be slow than let a product I am not happy with out the door. We knew there would be some teathing issues which is why we are aiming at a 1 Jan release of the full conversion kits.

Cheers,
