How to fit quarter window glass
I took the glass out of my beetles (68) quarter windows to replace the locks, bought some new rubber to fit them in but even using a rubber mallet, I
can't get them back in the frames.
This is for the glass to be fitted in to the chrome frame, not the chrome frame into the outer frame.
Even windscreens O'Brien couldn't do it.
Is there someone around that specialises in this or is there a special technique to do it?

This is a very time consuming job, It took me over 4 hours to do 2 1/4 windows its not easy

This is the vent type ones in the door?
This is a little different as these guys are powder coating them but the re-install is the same, also a link to a "how to" page towards the bottom
of the 1st page.

Just use a little lube on the rubbers , quick wipe over with rubber grease and slide the frame over the glass , not try and slide the glass into the
frame. In other words place the long flat of the glass on a clean solid covered surface , position the rubber and push over and onto the glass.
Concentraite your effort in the center of the frame. A few swift hits on the frame with a rubber mallet will to it.
If the rubber isnt sitting perfect which it won't here's what you do. Grab a nice sharp trimming knife and using the edge frame as a guide trim off
any high spots. Then grab your sealer gun with some black silicone and run a small bead all the way along the glass and edge of the frame. Spray with
wd40 , grab a rag and in more or less one wipe run you rag or plastic scraper along the edge cleaning any excess. Dont be to fussy as it can be
trimmed to perfection with a 1"blade once dried.

Just make sure the surface you put the glass onto my be clean as . Old piece of wood is best!
