Wider wheel arches/fenders
Hey all. Am new to this so excuse the lack of knowledge. Does anyone know where I can get a good set of widened guards for my 56 bug?? Can't find
anything on the net except Aero and stuff from overseas that cost a small fortune to import!! Oh, and I want them to be the original shape, but
WIDER!!!
Thanks. :bounce

There are 3 basic type of Fibreglass guards.
The double bump which look terriable
Smoothies basic the stock guard widened ( which u proberly want )
Aerolook which are same as smoothies but have extended sections to act as spoilers.
The Smoothies and Aerolook are available from Vintage Vee Dub in Sydney 02-9789-1777, give them a call for prices.
The smoothies and Aerolook will take 17" x 7 or 8" if you can fit them to your car.
Dont forget there fibreglass and take a bit of fitting to get them to sit right on the car, as with any fibreglass product.

you can also go the split n widne route, which is what i did with my old beetle. you just insert a 50mm strip in the centre.

I was actually gonna try and do the cut and shut idea, being a metal worker. How hard was it and are you able to run me through how you went about
the whole process without warping the crap out of the panels??
Cheers,
Mike.

my genius panel guy, hairy harris came up with it, as i couldnt find original look wide guards.
he split them in the middle at the top of the guard and then ran down to the front and rear edges, in a kinda straight line, so the ends where not in
the middle of the guard but it apparently gave a staight cut to put the sleeve in.
as best i can explain really. but it worked a treat.

yeah well thats how the made the mold for the smoothies....
lots of work n hours of sanding and smoothing to get it to look right but work it in the end ,,,, proberly cheaper to buy the fibreglass
smoothies already done if your paying by the hour rate for the panel beater
