ballpark price on this split

Hey all - a mate of mine is considering selling his 67 splitty camper in a couple of months time. I'm not all that knowledgable on them and neither is he but i told him I'd post some pics up and see if any of the splitty dudes on the forum would have a better idea.

It's a 1600 pop top with manual gearbox. WA rego to next month but will be renewed. Steering is a bit loose and the brakes probably need a freshen up. The paint is very average but tidy. Not sure about those side windows - I would guess they are aftermarket jobs? There's some rust in it but overall not too bad - the main points would be the left engine hood hinge, inside the passenger side door, and a few bits underneath. Sorry I'm not any more descriptive.

I spoke to some of the guys at the Free n Easy on the weekend and the ideas were between $4 - $6k. They are probably right but he was hoping to get a few more quotes from other people.

thanks for your time,

Brian

Looks pretty tidy, is it for you? Or he just wants to sell it?

He's a little attached to it but he has a single cab bay as well and i reckon he'll part with this in a couple of months.

I'd love to buy it if it was around the $4k mark (my budget at the moment) but I wouldn't want to rip him off by telling him it's worth less than it really is - not my style :)

Thanks mate - appreciate it.

I can imagine that getting any bus to a 'comfortable' ride stage (reliable motor, strong box, good clutch/suspension etc) would cost a lot on top of the purchase price. I'd have to add air-con as well as I'm getting picky and it's almost at the 40 degree mark here in WA today.

it is a panel with windows and a pop top installed at some point but other than that it looks ok in the pics, i would say more like 4k with those mods done to it. big job to return to standard but can be done

i,d say no more than 4 if its got rust

just cause its got a half decent paint job does not make it worth more ,you still have to fix the rust and respray it any way so it may as welll have a dungy paint job just ask a few more of the boys on here like twoguns and 57bus, my view you make yours

Here we go again!!'

You should not pay more than $2000 for any unrestored bus,( does not include 23's) especially a converted panel van(sorry,to panow owners), as Roy has said to restore this bus will cost over 20,000.
Yes it has a nice paintjob, but it WILL still need the ususal repairs, sills, outriggers, jacking points, doglegs, front, etc.
The price is what someone will pay for it, but get your facts right first, you have to consider what you want the van for, do you want it as a daily driver, can you repair it as you drive it, can you do the repairs yourself, if not you are looking at over 20k,.

Obviousley you should buy the best bus you can but I would rather see one that has no paint and that way you can see what has to be done, the paint comes off anyway when you do the repairs.

As usual, just my opinion.

Its upto you what it is worth,
There are some busses for sale here , they have had over 100 views and not 1 reply, might be due to the price???
Some people think they can charge large amounts for splits, that has finished now as most know how much it will cost to do one up.

Cheers
Dave

See I am watching my manners and apologising to you first.

I am just amazed at how much some people think they are worth, not just panel vans but splits in general, they have no idea on repair costs.

There is a 1960 panel van for sale on here for 4k. why spend that when you could get one for 1-2k and it will still need the same amount of work.
The same seller also had a 67 bus that he stated that the roof had rusted through along the gutter, he wanted over 2k for that, do they know it is not worth anything if the gutter has gone????

In Australia they seem to want good money for something just because they see the prices that they get overseas, WE are NOT overseas, there is not the market or resources to do cheap repairs on splits over here.
Ask anyone who has done one in the last 1-2 years on how much it costs,
ClassicVW(pacific)
T2 Sauerkraut
Myself

we have all restored splits and have spent over 20k each.
Why oh why do people think that they can get silly prices, they ALL, repeat ALL need the usual work
Cheers
Dave
Starting to climb down now

Sorry to go on.

If you can get this bus for 4 k then buy it, and use it, worry about the rust when it comes, at least its regoed, Just Do IT.

Dave

Good call Dave, it's up to the individual and what they think it's worth or what people are willing to pay.

I'd put 7- 8k and be open to offers.

57,

I appreciate 'your' opinion on what it's worth (which is all i was originally asking everybody) but if its going to turn into a lecture towards other people's thoughts then maybe we should just quit the thread right now.

I think people get the idea - we really don't need the "here we go again" comments - let it go dude ;)

Thanks everyone for your valuable input - I'll pass the info on to the owner and leave it up to him...
