hmm. so i would still need to buy the super diff? or would it make it strong enough to be able to use the stock diff? im still not gonna be dumping it
at 7000 rpm on slicks so its more for the fun of it, those who know what i mean will understand :P

a welded or locked diff in a vw would be virtually undrivable. I couldn't turn on the road in my baja when my diff broke and locked itself.
Some guys on the gold coast put a locker in a manx buggy, and found it to be rather undrivable. I think they removed it and I heard rumours of an air
locker being developed.

I think the syncro diff is the way to go, it's just to rare and expensive.

so just get a super diff instead? i heard that gene berg make a shim kit that makes a normal diff act like a lsd, has anyone got experience with them?
trunk monkey, because sometime getting your car back just isn't enough

There is a company in Australia that have a braking system that acts like a locker. I plan on putting one in my Baja. The cost is about $1200 Aus and
includes an electric compressor. I think that it works like ABS but in reverse. It uses the compressed air to force brake pistons that lock the
slipping wheel.
I have seen a competition 4wd rig a at few of the 'Tuff Truck' events and it works well.
The good thing is you can turn it on or off and it makes cool noises while it is working. You should also be able to keep your turn brakes.
I'll chase up a link if any one is interested. I think it is a Queensland Company 'Halltec'?

Yes I have that berg part in my daily driver (66 beetle) its good, but a bit noisy and contrary to what you might think its good in the wet I am not
100% sure what the part is as I bought the gearbox reconditioned with it installed.
the work was done by a formula vee guy Dave Coullts I have tried a few times to call this guy to find out exactly what I have got as I like it, but I
want him to drive it, to verify it should be that noisey....
Just spoke to him and he tells me that it is simply shims to stop play in the diff this locks the axles and they are a berg part... I have arranged
for him to drive my car to determine whether the noise is usual or not...

im not worried about the noise i just want the diff to lock. if you could get the info on that it would be awesome. cause it seems like it might be
cheaper to do that with a superdiff than it would be to get a locker or a lsd. anyone with anymore ideas

I have a factory Vanagon superdiff in my Baja.
The Gene Berg poor man posi-shim kit is basically just some extra shims for the diff to preload the spider gears against each other and make it
difficult for them to work properly. This gives a slight locker effect. It is for swingaxle only.

When I had my gearbox built I asked for the diff to be shimmed as tight as possible (if possible). I didn't ask if this was achieved, but if you have
enough power I find both wheels try to spin anyway.
