EJ20T Conversion help PLEASE!!

Hey all,

Can any really helpful person/people give me a fairly detailed rundown on what has to be done to legally put an EJ20T into my 56 oval?? By this I mean things like brakes, suspension, steering, engineering, etc, etc. I know that some of you have already been through this whole thing, so your help is greatly apprecialted.

Cheers,

Mikey.

You are in SA so you need to check with your local guys as most states seem to vary.

In QLD you will need rear disc, unleaded fule limiter, demister, new seat belts. I think that is about it.

Look in the Adelaide yellow pages under Engineers - Vehicle.
Call one of them and ask them for some idea of what they think TSA will want. Also ask them for an estimate for the engineer's report and tests that TSA will require.
I would also ring TSA at Regency Park and ask to speak to someone at vehicle modifications. Tell them what you want to do. They should give you a reasonable idea of what will be required over the phone but won't commit themselves to exactly what is needed until you put in an application form. In one conversation I had with them, they said you can do anything you want, IF you have the money to make it safe and to prove it is safe.
Treat them with respect and you should get on OK. If you get shirty with them they will get REALLY difficult. :cussing
If you don't ahve any luck over the phone you can also try putting in the application. They will soon tell you what they require.
Also look up IIcab on this forum and send him an email or U2U. He lives out at Klemzig and has had permission to put a 3.8 V6 in his bay window kombi, subject to many requirements. I havent heard how he has got on lately.
Keep us informed, and good luck.

Andy.

We are about to get ours done...this is what we need in NSW.

Catalytic converter...before muffler.
Blow off valve cannot vent to air..must be air cleaner.
Sound under 91 db
4 wheel disc brakes
weigh bridge ticket of over 860kg
minimum clearance of 100mm

I think thats it....i'm tired from working on the car 2 days straight till all hours...the wife and kids have gone to New Zealand for 2 weeks so now is my only chance to get it finished.

Cheers for that guys. Just tried to look up engineers in the yellow pages but only seem to get mechanics, is this right?? Is a vehicle engineer also a mechanic??

Thanks

Mike

no, ring the local RTA (roads and transport authority) and ask them for a list of the appropriate people. Or look up on line.

Sorry Mikey - it isn't 11CAB who lives in Adelaide, it is VWTYP2 that may be able to help you.

Street Machine magazine has a list of accredited engineers here for all States http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/Tig/Minisite/Minisite.aspx?alias=carpointau&am...

The listing is by no means complete. It is missing Richard Larson of Load Safe and Keith Fackrel of KCF Rally Sport for QLD.
