Hitler in topless- doorless Beetle on TV

On the History Channel tonight - The story of the JEEP - started out with HITLER [I presume] being driven around in a Topless - 4 canvasdoors - Beetle [with about 10 minders running in front-behind etc-] with thousands of Germans looking on. Then they showed the Swimmwagen & Kubelwagens driving in the Mud etc.. as the Germans had already started to invade countries.... the US Government decided they needed a 4WD vehicle to be used in the upcoming War... The Bantam Car company designed and built a prototype in under 3 months. the rest [as they say] isHistory...:o:o
Very interesting... :D

I'm SO tired of this association between Hitler and the VW.

Journalists sometimes forget that Hitler was only seen with the VW because his government had funded its development. He laid the Wolfsburg foundation stone in May 1938 but didn't stay long. He had other things to do - his army invaded Austria the following day.

Hitler's favourite car was his Mercedes Benz. He always used it for his public appearances. Hitler was a huge fan of the Mercedes silver arrow Grand Prix cars, and Porsche had much hard work in convincing him to also fund the rival Auto Union team.

The Hitler-VW connection has been done to death and I'm sick of it.

people also conveniently forget that henry ford was a chronic anti semantic and visited Dr Ferdo and Hitler on many occassions helping VW set up their mass production abilities...
