narrowed beam ???s
hey all. i am hoping for some answers. looking at my narrowed beam (it seems two inches narrower), and then looking at fitting in my beetle, i am
curious what, if anyhting i need to do to the steering arms? will they need to be shortened in anyway or are the adjsuterable?
also is there some trick to removing the from drum and KnL pins? or do i jdut belt the shit out of it till the part witht he beam? ive undone the bolt
that tightens the sleeve where the pins slide into the beam, but have been belting it all morning.... am sure the neighbours have been loving me.
anyway hoping to get some answers soon.....

thanks. ive done that. just went out and gave it a good belting and i got one off. i can see the adjsutment inthe steering arms. so i just hope there
is enough to wind in...

ok i got the front beam... whata fun job that was. so much grease and crap. anyway i think the car has come down 70-100mm.
so anyone please let me know how and which way to turn the rear. is it i notch =50mm? if i turn the outside one, which way is it i need to tunr?

seems lower than it looks in the pic. the jack got stuck under to nose and i needed to use some 4x2 under one of hte wheels to get it out. i think
once the lower tyres go on, it should help more. as is hte wheels are hitting the inside light housing on almost full lock.

If you have narrowed the beam by 1 inch each side then you will have to cut the tie rods and make a new thread in them.
Only cut the Right hand end on each tie rod as its easier to cut and find a Right hand tap, the other end has a Lefty hand thread n its hard to find
a tap to do this

ah, i was wondering this. thanks for the up on that. i have adjustments on both ends of my tie rods, is htis not enough to fix the difference? be a
bummer to have to get some cutting. where would i go being ita small country town. who would be up to doing this sort of work?

take the tie rods off n find someone with a hack saw n a 14 mm tap i think its 1.5 pitch but dont quote me on it, or u can put it in a lathe n
machine it off square easy
Not hard to do just a bit of dicking around n getting the right metric tap, cut 1 inch from the RIGHT hand threaded end n re tap the thread to
the extended depth.

If your confident..... you cut what you need and make a sleeve and just get it welded somewhere
means you can do it to your standard

thanks for hte imput. think i will get this one tackled. any suggestions? i dont have the means to tap etc.
been told there was a whole thread on lowering the rear. does anybody remember it and have a link?
