windscreen wipers

hey people
is the rod that ur wipers bolt to meant to turn with the whole lot so that the nut that bolts them tight against the body moves aswell?? cause with mine one does and pone doesnt but they wont work when the side with the one that moves is tightened down ?/???
pretty shitty explanation on whats happoening but im thinking that its not meant to move and that my wiper assembly is screwed?
cheers

Yes the rods move back & forth.. there are connecting bits behind them that attach to the wiper motor...

The piece in the body doesn't move.... its a sort of bearing I suppose.... like a bush.. usually made from stainless steel...

Looks like You have a problem....

That pivot point is prone to rusting, as lee say's you've got problems.
You'll need to get under the dash to pull the whole assembly, not sure if the dash needs to come out first.
