speedo is out...someone help?

ok..i put smaller rims on the car...14x6....then i put 55 series tyres on the rims...now the type 3 looks phat...but the speedo is out by about 20 k's....so i'll be doing 40 and it reads 60 on the clock....anyone know where i can fix this?
i was gonna buy the digital speedo kit from jaycar...but it turns out that this actual kit doesnt take a new reading from the wheel, instead just takes the speed from ur original able via a bobbin and then digitalises it....
so...anyone got any ideas?

You can get an aftermarket VDO speedo which has an electronic pickup. Although it might just be easier to put higher profile tires to match stock to get the speedo back to normal.

btw I think legally you are supposed to stay +/- 15mm of original overall diameter

you would have to get it recalibrated for the wheel configuration you are using. if you use anything other than the stock wheels the speedo will be wrong... they will most likely have to put a gearbox in the cable to make the correction to the speedo.
good luck (not sarcastic) :thumb

I think the speedo can be recalibrated to compensate for the change in wheel OD. Take it to a specialist automotive instrument shop and ask them.

Buy a GPS in the meantime. I sit mine up on the dash and gives an accurate speed for travelling to and from work, past speed cameras, but not through tunnels.

I wrote a conversion chart onto my speedo that says this speed on the dial actually equals this speed for 40, 50, 60, 100 & 110kph.
