The son of the guy I work with, works for the DNRE and has been on fire-watch for about six months. As it was my first day back at work today, I heard
lots of stories about the fires in Eastern Victoria. It sounds like they're getting pretty desperate.

Hey Jay
Things have been really bad with the fires. Melbourne has been covered in smoke from the fires up north for the last couple of weeks. So bad two
Mondays ago, I thought it must have been in the Dandenongs, it was thick and you could smell it:jesus
Amazing story of survival in 'The Herald-Sun' this morning but can't find it on line. CFA fire fighters sat it out in their trucks as
walls of fire engulfed their trucks. It must have been a nightmare to live through, can't imagine
Temperatures are rising again tomorrow

'The Age' has a couple of lines only online

The country side is drier than I've ever seen it, with an intense heat haze. You feel if you look too strongly the stare can ignite it all.
Everything is ready to explode or is. I think total fire bans should be on all days at the moment, you don't need any spark hitting the ground at
anytime right now I'm sure
Wow, what a contrast of weather conditions we have at the moment Jay!!!
Catch you soon when you get home

Those photos are very eerie
Know last week people in the city were pretty subdued, Friday especially, very dry intense heat and smoke hanging in the city streets. Must have been
a very unusual atmosphere there in Canberra |
