I have a good swing arm box out of an early 70 beetle are they the same as those fitted to later model IRS style (not the ratios just phisically) I am consiering converting it to CV and have a stuffed CV box can I just swap bits?

The boxes are the same physicaly and you can bolt over the diff and side plates from the dead IRS box you have.
Just be sure to set the backlash on the ring and pinion and the pre load on the side carrier bearings properly. And of cause bolt the ring gear from the swing axel box to the irs diff.
