"eyelids" on lights
ok I am not sure what they are called but I saw a Kombi with 'eyelids' type things on the front lights
Ive seen them on older bugs I think but not on Kombis
Is it ok to put them on? If so where can I get them?

They are intended for early style sloped beetle headlights, u can get them to fit early type 2's as well. You can make them fit late beetles,
type 3's and late type 2's with some effort apparently.
Most of the eyelids are cheap taiwan crap that rusts pretty quickly. I used to want a pair but i kind of got sick of the way they looked. They also
screw up the seal in your headlight so it'll probably rust out your headlight bucket sooner. They also might be a hazard if you ever hit any
pedestrians

Hey Azz,
You can make them fit a Splitty, just have to carefully bend them. They cant sit straight though as the adjustment screw is in the way, making the
split have an angry or sad expression.
The quality is not too bad...just have to CRC the underneath and polish them regularly. Seal the beam with black silastic. You can get aluminium
ones for more $$$ though.
Are they legal? I got a canary on my bug for having them(+too low,oil leak etc etc)Was told they could hurt a pedestrian if in an accident.

Thats interesting about the eyelids and if they are legal or not. I just put a set of German ($$) ones on my oval. I'd be right peeed off if I
had to take them off.
Can any one in Melb cast some more light on this one about the law in Vic.
Has any one had experience with Mr Plod and ya eyelids.

hot rod lids
anyone know if i can get the hot rod type lids that fit over the top half of the lense and look like the whole lense is a chrome ball. (its an
illusion, as the bottom half is still a functional light)
dont know how, but i reckon i could make these fit a bug some how.
anyone know where i can get them?

up here in brisbane yoy can get them from micks motors for just over 20 bucks. Also Harding European are getting better quility ones for $100 a pair,
i think these are brass? with a chrome finish, non rusting.
i'm, about to try to masage some on to rossi headlights so i'll be buying the cheap ones. Just hope they get them in before dubs is on.

I don't know about other states, but in Victoria they would definitely be illegal as the have a reasonably sharp leading edge - just take a look
around at all the bull$#it about bullbar design.:o
A lot of people have them fitted though, and I don't believe that Mr Plod is going to bother anybody in a vehicle that looks like it is cared for
and is being driven sensibly.
As for hurting a pedestrian: If I (hypothetically) ran into a pedestrian I think he/she would have a lot more to worry about than the eyelids!! What
about the other 3/4 tonne of vehicle???

not to mention the fact that youd feel obliged to get out and start kicking them for denting your kombi.
(IMHO kicking someone when their down is often the best (and safest) time )

Had no problems between Bel the beetle and Mr Plod
When I do get breathalised they usually comment on the nice beetle
They are usually called eyebrows, though to me they look like lids, and I love them. They make your beetle looks so cute, not sure about kombi's

Hey Golde60,
The half moon light covers you are asking about are avilable from Johns Rod and Custom. The only way you could run them on early beetle lights is if
you ran a sealed beam type light inside the main housing, like the US ones that have a clear outer cover.
Check the following pics:
Some advice, I had these on a HR and they cut your light beam down by half. I am the first person to say BOOHOO to anyone worrying about legallity,
but these are a pain. I currently have catseyes on my van with no probs.
