red stripe on tyres
Not sure what the correct term is, but does anyone know for sure if having the red stripe cut into the wall of the tyres is illegal in QLD (I am
pretty sure it is)? I think that any modification to the wall of a tyre makes it illegal, but have only heard this, haven't read it in any
regulations etc.
And also if it is legal, anyone know who could do it in Brissy?

Hey Das,
Its not actually cut in, its etched to give the paint something to adhere to. Also available as white wall. It is available no larger that 2"
and can be done on any size tyre.
I can't see why it would be illegal.
BTW: Im in W.A and not sure If there are suppliers where you are.
Try antiquetyres.com perhaps?...

Thanks for the feedback, I can't remember where I heard the stuff about being illegal - it was a while ago.
But this is from the state where there are rediculous rules for tyre widths (maximum width = 1.3 x largest optional tyre width from the manufacturer
for that model car). Therefore, 1963 beetle with 5.6in width originally = 185 or 195 at the most (my 205s are technically illegal). Regardless of
which wheels you run.
