suspension! what and for how much?
hey all.. i have decided i cannot stand to ride the beetle around on bump stops anymore! it's just no fun!!
the plan is to raise the rear a few inches making it legal once again.. and probably raise the front aswell..
now originally my plans were a set of BRM's.. but i think that i should replace all the shock absorbers once i raise the car, so i have all the
suspension renewed,, comfortable and the way it is going to stay.. THEN the brms
so what should i be looking at? for a comfortable ride, with the front sitting 150-170mm off the ground and the rear 160-180mm off the ground.
adjustable beam is already in, and i can rotate the spring plates to get these heights.. but how do the shockers work, and what should i have in
there? what else will i need? im assuming everything the car is sitting on has pretty-much been destroyed (bump stops and what-not)
budget about a $1000
thanks in advance

Go and buy some dropped spindles for the front, you'll get you ride back that way.

do you have shorter shocks or are you still running the standard length ones? the standard ones might have no travel at your height.
if it is sitting on the bump stops at the rear then i guess you can shorten the rubbers.
do your spring plates hit their upper limiters near where they join the torsion bar? that would be bad
shocks should set you back less than $300 depending on the quality of the ones you get. maybe go adjustables so you can change the stiffness. |
