custom header made of stock parts


I build my own header with parts of the stock header and catalytic converter of the Subaru EJ 22.




To gain ground clearance I cut the flanges like shown here.

the other parts I used : 1 x 30° bend
2 x 45° bends
3 x 90° bends
1 x tube 1 meter
all in 50 mm diameter and stainless
steel

The header already wraped in thermo tec exhaust insulating wrap.

The mounted header before it was all finished. I am testing with 2 different mufflers, thats why there are two seen here.
I am keen to see how much power output I am going to have with it. I will get it on a dyno, but not before the end of april. It is winter here in Germany with lots of snow this year
and 3 days ago we had minus 17 degrees celsius. I have bought the stock header of an Impreza WRX STI, that will be testet too on the dyno, but without a cat. I keep you posted.

It was to big again. I spotwelded it and went to a professional welder to get it done. I went to the welder and my car six times to get it bit by bit and a perfect fit.

Hi lugnuts, you are right the exhaust tips are put into the cutouts to have it look stock. I made a little brace for the tips, but I have no picture of it. Got to take one.

Tidy..very tidy indeed.

How is the power and torque....has that cat actually got internals? Highly illegal here(removeing internals), although they block up and just restrict you motor after a while.

Hi lugnuts,

I won't forget it. Now that I had a chance to ride, I know what I want to change over the winter. One thing is the exhaust, I will probably build a complete new one without the catalytic converter and the fake exhaust tips. I tried the smaller muffler, but it was to loud. Have another muffler that I want to try with this header, with that one I could install the fake exhaust tips.

How is your muffler supported at the back....is it mounted tothe engine somehow ...or to the frame of the car??

Hi Warren,

the muffler is hanging in those rubber things, I dont know how you call them ( in English). You can see one at the exhaust tip of the larger muffler above. And mounted to the car.

It rusts out your exhausts alot quicker as it traps moisture. Also turns stainless brittle like glass.
