My new 67 bus
Hey guys,
After handballing on my split ute last weekend I realised what a mistake I had made. So I bought this bus on ebay the other day.
Got it cheapish ($870 plus $90 to transport) but the specific things the seller said were good (like the sills and underside of the bus) are actually
ratshit. I tried to get some kind of explanation from the seller but he got aggressive so I left negative feedback and vice versa, and it got really
ugly.
I guess I cant expect too much for an $870 kombi however he made specific claims which were totally false.
Anyway here it is, and I'm trying to track down a replacement bulkhead section to see if I can restore it.

Another shot. Note the rear, right hand side frame which is bent (after I had started to straighten it). Didnt want to push it too far in case it
snapped right off. Will attempt to fix properly when I get into the guts of it.

Yeah byronbus..i know. Van has been butchered a bit you could say. Will patch up as per original, or possibly thinking going retro-modern with led's
or similar. Dont know what's going to happen with it yet!

Gonna need alot of bits though...will probably buy another shitty split to make 1 good from 2 bad (if you know what I mean).
Price was OK but the seller said underside of bud was solid, and both sills were good which is far from the truth. This and the fact he failed to
mention the cut in the bulkhead had pissed me off a little you could say, but yeah a cheap bus all the same.

Also, considering whether to go an engine conversion or not. I know this is probably a question in the technical section but, if I put a watercooled
engine in (Suby or whatever) do I need a dog-ugly radiator at the front of the car, or can it be cooled via the existing vents (I'm gonna take off
the elephant ears that have been riveted to the car)

Cheers guys...I'm pretty dissapointed with the inaccuracy of the item description etc however I am looking forward to getting stuck into it.
I bought the van off ebay and paid an extra $90 to have it delivered to my doorstep (van was the other side of Melbourne).
I dont know whether to go the whole hog and fully restore, or whether to do an OK job and get it on the road in less than a year. I'm erring towards
the second as the bus has been butchered so much as it is...I'm tempted to get going ASAP and buy a complete bus that is in better nick to do a full
resto. However I am starting a welding course soon, and I'll probably do more to the bus than I intend at the moment.

no need for ugly rad on front of bus if you watercool. mine is at the back, hidden behind a mesh rear engine lid, although i am considering getting a
bloke down the road to louvre one for me. you can also put the rad down between the chassis rails and if you tried hard enough you probably could
wedge one into the vents with a bit of work.

Awesome..thanks baybuscamperkid. I havent delved very deep at all into the engine conversion idea however it's something I've wanted to do, but have
been put off by the idea of something like a dodgy looking radiator at the front.
You've given me hope!

vwtyp2 has a bay with a v6.
His radiator it between the chassis rails underneath with a lttle scoop attached, works well.
