Fitting a type 4 to an early kombi
Has anyone on here fit a type 4 engine to a split window kombi using the stock type 4 fan without converting it to an upright fan?
I have trial fitted a type 4 into my project (including mocking up a rear valance) and it seems as though it will fit with a little engine bay seal
custom work.
Engine bay is already hacked about from a previous owner so i thought i may be able to fit my engine with factory fan and tin ware.
Anyone with experience or web links?

Are you running stock heater boxes on that?
My concern si where the exhaust looks like it will run.
Is the early bay any longer than the split in the engine bay?

There are other options. I had an early bay with a type 4 motor, the PO cut the panels from the engine bay of a later kombi and grafted then to the
engine bay of his kombi, so the normal type 4 engine bay seal still worked as it does in a later kombi. (hope that makes sense)
Alternatively you can put an upright fan kit on the type 4 motor and avoid those hassles.
I don't know if a splitty engine bay is longer/shorter than an early bay kombi.

Engine bay in a Splitty is smaller than an early Bay,
I have seen a stock T4 in a splitty, but it is a tight fit, the fan is very close to the engine lid and the rear bumper needs to be trimmer so the
exhaust fits also.
