Early Type3 bumpers onto late model.
Is it possible to fit early bumpers onto a late type 3 and what do you need to do the mod if it is possible???
Thanks Dan

I believe its all in the bumper brackets being modified slightly.
Nothing is impossible.... just too bloody hard sometimes....
I have seen one at a VW Show.... thought it was an early model until I looked closer....

Well have been told by a few folk off the Samba you can swop them over. Using the late brackets the front bumper blade requires some new holes
drilled into it and apparently the rear is easy enough.
Have had alot of feed back and info on changing the late to early look , some bad , most good. Seems quite popular in the States , mainly the change
of bumpers and front indicators , flat rear lenses along with other a few other mods .
With early models being so hard to get nowadays and nice late ones available for decent money it seems a cheap and easy few mods if you like that
early look like i do. 2 replacement guards , smoothed and painted, early front indicators and bumpers , rear lenses and your done. Keeping all
original parts to restore if required.
If anyones interested i'll be doing a step by step with pics in members ride forum .
Ta Dan

After the advise i was given i had a good look tonight with a mate , took some measurements etc and it looks easy enough. Started soaking all relevant
nuts/ bolts in wd40 and will do the conversion as soon as the early bumpers are chromed.
Thanks for the help
Dan

Any chance for a up date. I have been thinking about this bumper idea for a few months now but have become lazy. A few pictures and some helpfull
hints will get the ball rolling again.
Cheers,
Brad. |
