emergency switch shorting out? Help
got my emergency switch working for the first time since i bought my bus today (it was removed and 1/2 dewired when i got the bus 3 years ago).
problem is whenever i install the switch into the dash it shorts the flasher can, making the can click but no light when the ignition is on and switch
is inactive, then when switch is activated nothing at all happens. the switch is definitely shorting on the dash as soon as it touches, any ideas
what is wrong? surely this isnt a VW design mistake?

sounds like a definite hazard light switch problem
they short out through the metal casing. you will find when u pull it out that it will have a small crack somewhere. ive had to replace 2 so far. both
times the case had split from the base

have found an alternate solution. got sick of playing with VW switches, so i stripped all the wires off the emergency switch, ran power direct to the
wires that ran to the indicator stalk and Hey Presto i had light from the indicators (which had been dead up 'til this point). then routed the wires
back over to the fusebox onto a flasher can, power in the other side, ground... and i had blinkers . then took the 4 wires that made up the emergency imputs from the emergency switch, ran them through a basic pull switch
and now i have emergencies. just have to find a switch that will allow me to isolate the 2 double nput plugs from each other while the switch is off
so that the indicators work individually through the stalk (were shorting through the switch when touching) and i will have a far simpler wiring then
the original, and whats more, IT WONT SHORT :thumb
