What they said - convert to a diesel motor and run it on biodiesel to start and get it up to operating temperature then switch to straight vegie
oil.
Plenty of info on how to do it.
Here's another article http://www.ata.org.au/articles/76veggieoil.pdf

How does 120h.p. sound running on my own backyard biodiesel. I can see T.D.I. engine conversions outnumbering subaru conversions when we hit $2 a
litre. sssshhh just dont tell too many people your making your own fuel.

Yep, good discussion topic, but dont be seriously concerned about Oil (and hence Petrol) running out in your lifetime (unless you live to about
200).
1. R / P ratios (reserves to Production) of crude oil has sat static at approx 40 years since the early 80's. So for 20 years we have been
discovering and producing new resvoirs at the rate that old ones are drying up + meeting global growth.
2. As time goes on, cars WILL become more fuel efficient (ie think hybrids like the Prius and Honda Civic), thus helping to offset the fact that there
will be more of them around. This should help slow down demand growth.
3. Once conventional oil supply starts to dwindle, the price will rise. Once the price gets high enough, it then becomes economically viable to
implement technologies such as refining Shale Oils (difficult due to the high solids contents and misplaced media / greenie angst), Gas to Liquids
(GTL) technoliges (ie reforming natural gas to petrol size molecules) and Solids to Liquids (ie making petrol and diesel from Coal and nat gas / CO2).
All of these techniques are proven technologies (at pilot plant level) that are simply still too expensive to fly economically while the price of oil
is still $50 odd a BBL. Another good one (my personal favourite) is refining Canola oil to diesel - anyone know any farmers (I do !!)
Petrol wont ever 'run out'. It will simply get so expensive that you will be better off converting your bug to electric power and installing a
static hydrogen fuel cell to power your home and recharge your car (and heat your water too).
