About to ask a similar question.
I'd never imagined a beetle could cope in the Antartic.
Wonder if it did? |

So interesting
Hey the article is really interesting
I wonder if they did keep shipping them back?
It would be interesting to email Mawson to see if we can get some current info
OK, call me crazy but I've emailed Mawson's Station and Field Support giving them a link to the post and to the article and asking nicely
for information. Hmmm, I wonder if I'll hear back. I'll let you know :o
I'm so curious |

Got reply
Hi Jen
Unfortunately we do not have a lot of information available on the volkswagons that were used at mawson. The article that you already have provides
most of the information. As far as I can ascertain, just the two VWs were used in Antarctica, this wasn't a regular occurence on the stations.
It would seem that this was a good publicity stunt for VW, however. We had a copy of the VWA review (June 1963) which features Antarctica 1 - I have
scanned this and attached the individual pages.
Hope this helps

Laura has attached 8 jpg's which I will post later if your interested. Or I can forward on the email and attachments to anyone who wants to copy
