Any 'Club Rego'd' Buggies here?
I am having a fight with ACT Motor Registry (see my gripes in 'General Chat' forum), over Historic / Club rego of my buggy.
Is there anyone here who has this rego on their buggy? Or know of anyone?

ACT Motor Registry, specifically the chief engineer, does not agree with adding a 'modified' vehicle to Historic rego.
His reasoning goes to the idea that this rego is for historic vehicles in original condition, as they were from the factory. He believes that, for
example, my car is not as it was made in the factory, therefore cannot be classed as historic as it was basically made up from parts to look like it
does.
I am hoping to fight this and so might call on a few people to maybe give testament, etc that they have cars like this in similar condition. I will
probably be working on this in about a fortnights time, or so, depending on final repairs.

Why do you want it regoed as a historic rego in particular. why not just join a buggy club and rego through them???

In ACT, historic rego is club rego. I also have to be a member of a recognised club here in the ACT. As there are no buggy clubs here (in fact, we
believe there are only 3 buggies, and only one of those is rego'd), I have to go through another Canberra club. The club side is a long story, but
I'm working on that part.
But...I can't use an 'interstate' club as my membership, because ACT riles say it has to be one of their clubs.

just do normal rego dude, It gives you a clear bill for the whole future of the car. That way they can't decide that the car can't registered later
on if they want to. It's happened in NSW before so it could happen there too.

Hey HotDog,
This may differ in other states, so you guys please jump in and correct me for your situations.
Normal rego - well you know this....pay rego once a year and drive our car wherever you normally would.
Now, in ACT (and I believe also NSW), there is 'Historic' rego available for cars that fit age guidelines (over 30 years old), they are recognised
as an asset to keep them on the roads for the public to view, so you can get rego at a much cheaper rate. However, for this, there are rules
concerning how often you can use that car on that rego, and where you use it, etc. I believe all other states have a system of Historic rego too.
For starters, to get this rego you have to be a financial member of a car club, depending on the state depends on the list of authorised clubs, etc,
and what proof you have to produce. In NSW, I believe the club has to provide eveidence in the way of an inspection report stating that car X is part
of their club and is roadworthy. Here in ACT, I believe the car still goes over the Govt pits for an inspection, but you have to have proof (ie
letter, etc) that the person is a member of a club.
You can't have an old car on historic plates without being a member of an authorised club. This is where the term 'club rego' comes from.
Now, in return for getting cheaper rego, etc, you are agreeing that your car is mainly for use on club outings and functions, not for everyday use.
So, you keep a logbook of your trips, and only take it on club outings (there is more detail than this, but you get the idea). You also are allowed
little things like drives to the mechanic, etc. Some states, I believe, have an amount of klms that you are allowed each year, to drive in your
car.
So, if you have a car that will only be used occasionally, for club meets, etc, you could look at the historic rego, depending on the rules for your
state.
Or...if you want to use your car for more than this, you go with standard rego.
