Worth of Old Golf
Any rough guestimates on the price of a 1977 Golf GLS is average condition?
Are they a reliable car? Fuel efficient? I know nothing about old golfs but would love some info. Things to look out for etc.
Cheers

I reckon between $1k & $2k for something decent. Certainly you can get them cheaper for wrecking material. I had a few, they go like a rocker,
well not exactly but you know what I mean. Cooling was always a problem though. Most of the ones I owned over heated

talk to The GOLF KING ;)
Many many Golfs have passed thru (and still in) these Hands... if not over?? close to 100!!!!
I have currently 20....... Have Had plenty Mk1's (74>83)a couple mk2's(84>92)..& a Mk3(93>98) Vr6(new)..
mk1's a re classics now .. as most ov u know..started the hatchback revolution...standard 1/4 mile in 17.99 sec's!!! . thats 1.6 carbi
4speed!!!..they re lite..so quick & fuel efficent..... very roomy inside.. rear seat folds forward(put ur mnt bike in there)...Most of the Mk1's
in OZ...ar 1.6 4speed carbied engines... these r good ..stndrd Solex carby is a good thibng wen workin proprly . alot go for a weber,,very fuel
efficient too...prices range.....I sell mainly 2 owner cars.. round the 2000-2500 mark.. theres alot ov crap around but u need to check for rust
mainly under the passenger wheel well..floor pass side,,,pillars...bottom rear arrches(back)...tailgate..bottom doors(perished rubbers cause
this)...most cars if good r straight..if dents in the roof?? good chance ben hit up da bum (greek style!!)tthe early cars 76' were built in
australia.. these r lighter,, but prone to rust... mechanicaly easy to work on.. most common prob's
1)Cv's 2)Front Wheel bearing's3)clutch4)gearbox<<note the old 4speed is bullet proof!! u drive it no oil! still goes!!..but syncrows go in 2nd
gear .very common prob..5)engine mounts6)rack/steering..,,,,Most common colours...76 blue,white ,yellow.red,77 silver,red,white,78
beige,silver,red,yellow,79 silver,beige,green.white... i could go on on... hope thi helps u??.. cheer gee.. feel free to contact me with any
queries..;0 NOte.. thermo fan switches r the main prob with overheating/cooking the engine.. keep on top ov that with cold switch.70-75deg.. AND chechk the oil & Coolant very regularly>. Ans very happy
motoring!!

im also interested in purchasing and doing up a mk1. :party haha
VolksFolks- are you in victoria or tasmania??? your car looks like a little stunner. how much (roughly) were u after for that one?? just gives me an
idea of what they are worth.. cheers
crazy george- do you know any good sites with general knowledge about mk1's? like common mods and stuff.
if i got one, id like to give it a respray, lower it with some nice rims, and get the old motor running a bit quicker.
