Hi Jak,
nice torque curve! What an EJ 20 T do you have installed, all Wrx Impreza engines I know are over 200 HP strong ? Why is it third gear?

The 195hp is at the wheels, not the flywheel, it's done in third gear as thats just the way it is done in Australia on Dyno Dynamics dynos. Also I have found that Aussie dyno figures are a little more realistic than the rest of the world.
& sure there are more powerful wrx engines out there, but if u can safely handle more than 200hp at the wheels then u are a better driver then me, which wouldnt be hard!

Hi Jak,

sorry I forgot the difference is engine dyno and chassis dyno. You have around 260 HP at the flywheel, that is a lot for the old bug. I checked a book and it was said that there is difference of about 30 percent in the two figures. I asked because I am going to put my EJ 22 bug on the dyno in a few days. Any advice for a dyno first timer?

Just make sure your tuner knows what he is doing & think of the dyno as a tuning tool not for bragging rights, Ive heard some horror stories about dynoes.

The 30% driveline loss is a rule of thumb. The wrx with its awd system is probably higher. I would imagine a beetle would be more efficient in this regard.

In relation to your dyno experience, make sure your tuner is familiar with subaru engines and listens for pinging. At the first sign of this or any other noises, they should shut it down immediately.

30% is probably a bit high.

I think most modern cars are around the 17% loss, most dyno tuners use that as a rule of thumb.

Your right AWD's are worse.

As an example, I've seen standard STI's off the showroom floor with around 140kw at the wheels. Thats less than what I have. The 4wd must soak an enormous amount of power.
Nathan my dyno tuner commented that it mine the power quite effortlessly, as though the gearbox wasn't holding it back at all.

Have you do a write up on this coversion.
Just thinking aloud(again).
What would it take to put one in a split.
Is the 1303 gearbox standard.
What cooling are you running, where is the rad??

I think I might be posting a bit on here in the future?????
