Closest incident?
I almost had an incident last night with a person who didn't look before entering the Point Cook roundabout hell at 60 km/h when the front of my
car was equal with her entry point (ie I was on the round about already, doing about 30 km/h in second). I had three alternatives:
a) Brake violently and t-bone her
b) Brake less violently and she t-bones me or at best we bounce off each other
c) Speed up as fast as possible and hope she misses or she twirls me around after a rear end clip
I took option c and narrowly (and I mean narrowly) missed having a rear end clip with her. If I had been in anything slower than hoonbug or been in
the wrong gear, I probably would be writing this to you in a few weeks time after being discharged from hospital.
How close have you been to getting in hospital involuntarily?

I've had a lot of them. But they are all my fault.
one of my favourite drives is jamberoo rd. 1 1/2 lanes of winding (poorly sealed) road. One occasion back in the datto days i've had the brakes
locked up into a corner, car going straight into path of another car. Must have released just in time. I'm still here.
same road this time in a telstar I managed to spin the thing 180 degrees without leaving the tar. Again a car was coming the other way. hi-tailed it
outta there in the direction I came from.
good road number 2 macquarie pass. Overtaking a truck on a blind bend. car coming other way. Dont know how I am here. 2 bends later was a cop car
too.
road number 3 princes highway, kiama bends. Coming back from a victorious nowra drags in the kombi. RX7 trying to blow me away. We are both zigzagging
through traffic (its 2 lanes) I managed to get in front but couldnt shake him off my tail. Up front is a car in the left lane, a car just ahead of it
in the right, and then another in the left. Had to go right, left, right. Kept the foot into it, cut right, left OK, but then hit a right hand bend at
the same time as go around the other car. The kombi wasnt prepared to enter into a slalom. Got ito a big tank slapper, arms going everywhere. All I
could see was rock wall, concrete divider, wall, divider.... with cars in between, arms everywhere on the big kombi wheel. Somehow got it back, slowed
RIGHT down, RX7 goes past with thumbs up and big grins. I pooped my pants and had to exit into kiama for a time out, while my mate wanted to go back
and do it again.
im a good boy now. dont do silly stuff like that anymore.

And Jay tried to kill me yesterday. OK so this is her story but she aint online to tell it. On the way to the airport. Raining as it always does in
crappy melbourne, we are in centre iane cruising. Then all of a sudden the guy ahead in the right hand lane wants to take the exit so hits the brakes.
All the cars behind him hit the brakes. The bus beside us cant slow so he moves over on to us. I look left and there's a car there so we cant go
anywhere. I dunno how we got out of that one either. 2 cars and a bus sharing 2 lanes.
Jay dont have much pigment at the best of times but she was whiter than the car after that.

Daily.
People do not look at give way or stop signs in the streets near my place.
You either have to be ready to nail it or lock it up.

The first time I drove my V8 kombi in the wet (well, actually, every time I drove it in the wet) I had a moment where it tried to swap ends on me.
Actually mounted a garden bed in it once before I sold it......
Moral of the story - V8 = much more weight (and power) than VW = sideways kombi

Do what I do, I think for every other DICK HEAD on the road, and assume every car on the road want's to smash into me.
That way you keep away from them
And if they do get in your face tell them what to do to them self's. |

Well nothing really to report in the Kombi so far...apart from those idiots in the 4WDs on the Princes Hwy fog on Sunday. Either driving WAY too fast
or WAY too slow for the conditions, and swinging from lane to lane with their stupid emergency lights flashing (who was the dickhead who thought of
that? They don't use emergency flashers in fog anywhere else in the world)
Had a good one in my old 2-litre Beetle once. Taking some family to the airport, running late as usual, four people on board plus a few suitcases.
Driving as fast as possible through traffic to get to the Qantas departures ASAP.
Went to pass a bus as it pulled away from a stop, just as a taxi in front changed lanes into mine. I nailed it and my VW darted through a gap, missing
bus on left and taxi on right by no more than 10mm on each side, doing 70-80 km/h.
All was quiet in my VW for about 5 minutes, you could have heard a pin drop. Finally someone broke the silence, amy km down the road, by saying
"shit that was close..."

nothing as exciting as you guys
just trying to catch a green right arrow - going fast trying to get to it, then hard on the brakes while turning right and the front end locks
only........so i am heading towards a row of stopped cars ........SH!!!!!T......so i ease off and i am back on line. Lucky no one was next to me
turning as well.

Now i "like" push bikes - even rode one via the coast to Adelaide once....
I was comming down Cox's Rd Nth Ryde to the round about w/- Pitwatter, just down from the rissole. It was about say 7.30 pm getting on dusk. I
had just entered or was about to enter the roundabout - yeah i will say i looked and "WHOOSH"
What was that??
This "freak" in one of those lay down feet first bikes.......had to be doing at least 70kays!
Didnt stop , look, what ever!
I will give way to anybody but you have to give em a chance. I think technically i would have been in the right cause i was just putting and he would
have hit me, but.....
The mess he would have made. IF i was in the roundabout he wouldnt have had a chance

Cause I am so old & used to be a long distance courier & hoon I have had too many but the ones that most stick in my mind are where I would be
going hard round a sweeping blind bend using all legal available space & unable to change direction only to find an idiot coming the other way
doing the same thing, daylight was better 'cause you got to see the look on their face. In my 12 mnths in Kombi I haven't had any incidents
that put the wind up me, because the handling & is excellent & very predictable. |

Must add comments to doug's post to say he was trying to copy myself in the baja as i left the servo sideway's before him
(it was a little wet ..... i love driving in the wet)
aside from standard wankers jumping on the brakes WAY WAY WAY too hard infront of me ... my best miss (well not too much damage and i did drive home)
was also in the wet on my way to work , booted it out of a roundabout lost the ass to the passenger side then overcorrected and ended up facing the
wrong way about 12 inches from a tree which was about 3 feet from the square concrete curbing.
All this right infront of my boss

I near had a corola for a hood ornament a couple of weeks ago, roundabout, as usual.
I don't think this woman had ever seen someone turn right at one before, or she just hasn't seen me & drove straight in.
When she did see me she panicked & stopped fair in front of me.
It was only that I was in the wife's nissan that I could drive round the silly cow.
Had of been the heavier kombi I would have T-boned her.
My favourites though are the people who race me at level crossings.
Took the wheel off a pushbike many years ago at Lisarrow. I can still remember the look on the kid's face.
There's an overbridge there now after another kid wasn't as lucky.....
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.

I managed to do a full 360 spin in my beetle in the wet last year on an on-ramp to Ipswich Rd (for the Brissy people) - hit a bump, just enough to
whip the rear around and before I knew it I had stalled it (was in 4th trying to correct the spin) and ended up parked about a metre from the guard
rail. Didn't hit any other cars or any other obstacles. Had to clean the old reg-grundies after that one though.
Lets just say I have slowed down in the wet now, I figure I used up my good luck in that one!
