Original '72 Type 3 Notchback

Hey Everyone. I am selling my notchback and am open to offers. I have a rough idea on what I should be selling it for, but your guidence (even if you are not interested in buying it) would be greatly appreciated for how much I should be asking for it. I am in no rush to sell it.

Here are the details:

YOM: 1972
Colour: Green
Engine: 1600 Twin
Miles: 82,000 Original with service record
Condition: Good Original Condition. Very little rust. A tiny bit of surface rust. Looks like rustproofing has been done. Paint is original, and in average condition with a few crows feet. Mechanically Excellent. Receipts for whatever work has been done. 3rd Owner. Will come with RWC.
Location: Brisbane or Gold Coast, Qld.

Thanks :)

I have asked the guy at the volkswagen shop where I get it serviced and he said you could ask $6000. I thought that was pretty high, and I dunno if it is realistic. I am in no rush to sell it, but I don't want to seem like an idiot if I am asking too much. But if I can get it, of course I would be happy! :)

Tell him he's dreamin'!

I payed $3500 for my '72 notch, and that had and original 90,000 miles on it.. not original paint but in good to very good condition.

J
send a couple of U2Us to people like Kafer, Moniek, midlife crisis and even Taz (if he still surfaces here) they all have type 3's and may know what a notch like yours is worth.
I think your mechanic is aiming a bit high, but I agree it is a great looking stock car and could be worth a bit. Just that people don't pay for type 3's what they would pay for a beetle or kombi.

Yeah I dunno about the pricing. Perhaps because there is so little rust etc.

Anyway if anyone wants to make an offer let me know! :)

It's nice! Assuming it's mechanically A1 I think the best you could hope for is $4500. That's just a personal opinion, but only the most amazing specimens are fetching $6k. Tragically, type 3's are not exactly the most sought after 30 year old car (no accounting for taste) and it's likely an enthusiast is your most promising buyer. Having said that, the right person may just be out there looking for you and know the value of such an original specimen. Good Luck.

All the best with the sale - I like notches but would get killed if I brought one home. Realistic price to me would be around the $3,500.00 mark

Jay,

Which year did you say it was. Looks like '73 Seats and '71 front Guards. What is the chassis number?

You've been drinking again WC! 73 seats had different head restraints and adjusters were on tunnel side. Also different backrest recline.

Hey. It is a 72.

Well I am keen for anyone who is interested to let me know. I am happy to provide more photos if you are interested. I guess I will take something above $4000.

Take it easy!

Its a funny thing with type 3 s they do not seem to hold any value what so eva

a friend of mine bought her fasty which was a one owner 58300 mile car 72 model with tacho and centre consol and orginal radio
for $500
now its sitting waiting for her to register it and drive it
it hasnt even worn the orig tyres yet

but yours is a better colour hers is poo brown
ive never seen a done up one go for $6000 so i dont think you will get that for what you got
as they all say its only worth what someone is willing to pay
good luck

Yeah. It is not really benefiting anyone comparing one car to another car without actually seeing them. The "one owner 58300 mile car 72 model with tacho and centre consol and orginal radio for $500" car might have sat been sitting on a beach for the past 33 years.

It is all supply and demand anyway.
