type 4 engine into a type 34 ghia
In previous forums on different areas of this site I have toyed with the idea of upgrading my 1500s engine in my type 34 ghia to a prosche engine. The
feedback I have received has been interesting and it has been suggested that I look at a Type 4 engine as it will require less metal work.
Would be interested to get some thoughts on how easy this conversion would be and what sort of cash I might be looking at for this conversion. Would
also like to hear thoughts on how a type 4 conversion would compare to a
1776cc or 1916cc big bore conversions. Open to advice. Cheers.

thanks for your input. Vw cool I'm not too sure what you mean by "why convert". What I mean by convert is anything that is a change from stock. It
may not be technically correct to call it a conversion but it is a move away from what I currently have. I'm assuming that dropping in a T4 will give
me more reliability, more power and less pollution which is all good. It may not be the purist thing to do but I'm hoping it will keep my car a daily
driver. The question is can it be done with a minimum of fuss or is it a major modification job?

I meant... "Why replace your stock type engine with another, different, engine". The Type 1 engien is just fien and can be built to deliver terrific
power and reliability for less than the cost of souping-up other engines and without chopping holes in things. I reckon the easiest thing for you is
to retain a standard style (eg Type 1/3) engine case and build on that. After 200,000-ish km, and my brother's - and others - racing success over the
last decade, a 1916 is my pick. Do you need a rear boot?

Thanks for your input guys. Subaruboxer I had a similar thread in the tech questions section and didn't get much of a response. I take your point
though a T4 is a VW engine and perhaps this isn't the correct forum for my question. cheers

Micheal, its a relatively easy swap. You would need to convert to upright fan style. Probably with a Porsche fan conversion kit or custom make kit.
Personally I like the Porsche fan style.
You would loose the rear boot as the motor will sit higher than the std 1600 "suit case" engine in there now.
Check out this on the samba.=====>
