Qld Challenge and Next Round of the ICQ-With Pics!!!
Qld Challenge
For those people in SE Qld, on the 30th of July the Qld challenge will be taking place. This is touring road event with speed sub sections. It is
being run throughout SE QLD.
It’s a pretty good event and includes over 350km of navigation and also 6 to 7 Special stages. The combined team of the VWDCQ and Club Audi
Queensland will be entering a team, with the following cars
White EVO 8
Black EVO 8
White 74 super Beetle- 1776cc, twin dells etc etc
Audi A4
Audi TT
Austin Healy Sprite
It’s a pretty interesting team for a combined Audi/VW team, but should be a good event with 50 cars. Some of the events which have been told as in,
at this point in time are
IWMAC Autocross track at Willowbank- This is the first for the day at about 8:30am
Prince Henry Drive in Towoomba – this will be a closed road stage.
A Motorkhana at Century Batteries- This will be the last event I believe, as Century batteries are the event sponsor.
Past stages have included
- A special stage near the south East end of the Dam wall at Wivenhoe
- Pit area and drag strip at the willowbank drag strip
- Closed Road stage at UQ Gatton campus
It should be great viewing with over 50 cars from old classics (lotuses, VW's and escorts etc) to specials like bullet roadsters and plastics such as
the Evo’s, Porcshe, and WRX’s

WEll it was a great day. The cars all performed well. Only a few mishaps with a datto expiring at gatton, Guy damaging a mag wheel (and hopefully no
suspension), and another car also damaging a wheel.
The stages were
Autocross- Fast dirt stage, alot of the newer cars were scared of damaging paint work etc
Drag strip- Fast witha slalom in the willobank staging lines into a rolling start pass of the drag strip with a garage finish at the 400m mark (the
braking was awesome!!)
Gatton UQ campus- Resonably bumpy and also a loose surface, but with a little wheel travel like the beetle, corners could be cut.
Prince henry Drive- THis was just scary, a 4km stage along the very edge of the great dividing range at towoomba. As i was going into it without any
idea, i played it safe. but a very aweseom drive.
Wivenhoe Dam- (we got 2 runs as the motokhana was canceled in brissy)- really good stage, with some noce twisty, yet flowing sections. Outrigh power
really only helped out of the 2 chicanes, as the start was on a loose surface and ppl had trouble getting the power down.
