Who needs a camper to camp???
As I pack up for my annual Port Fairy festival trip, it struck me that my SC can do it better than a camper. It just gobbles up camping gear so I can
use a good sized continental framed tent for more room. They main issue is the kitchen. This is what takes the time to set up & dismantle. I have
a fully enclosed weatherproof trailer that I used to tow behind a touring motorcycle that is now idle. (Ahhh! those heady days- 2 up on a Kwaka
GTR1000 & a trailer full of gear at 120klix!) I'm now considering giving it to a camper factory to have a stove, fridge sink & cupboards
fitted to it & use it as a mobile kitchen. Once set up the SC will easily tow it. The cooking can be done outside in good weather (don't you
hate waking up inside a camper/tent with the stale smell of last night's meal hanging about?) or it could be wheeled into the tent in bad. The
load area of the SC would also act as a bedroom, high & dry with no creepy crawlies. The kitchen unit could also go out on day trips etc without
having to haul all the accommodation gear. Come on camper people, is it a good idea or, as we used to say in the army, am I pissing into the wind?

I'm not a camper person but think its a great idea. you could leave all your stuff behind and go jumping sand dunes. Put a lock on the wheels
though.
Anyone see the better home and gardens show a couple of weeks ago. The winner of the bbq contest built a beetle trailer and had his bbq in it, he just
towed the thing round with him on all his camping trips. only saw the end of the story so didn't actually see the bbq. Anyone have any photos. |

the only peoblem is, their in the good ol U.S.A. but if your handy with a welder and saw, you could knock one up for yourself! I definately want
one.

pisser idea
if you only want a kitchen that sounds great i saw a trailer for a harley and the guy had put a kitchen in the bottom and it folded out to a small
camper as well ,and virtually no weight for the kombi ,you could put in fridge as well and run a lead from your twin batteries put some thought in on
space saving ,go for it and if its good you could sell them to vw types

Once upon a time I went camping at Booti Booti National park in my Beetle, with a group of friends. We had three of four tents in a group on the
beach, with a cool May south wind blowing in off the sea.
We huddled together in the dripping canvas and nylon as the cold drizzle starting misting over our camp. The portable gas BBQ fizzled out. It was too
windy to cook anything. We dived into our damp tents and tried to keep the party going with a few damp beers as the kerosene lamp kept fickering and
smoking.
I looked down the beach through the whistling tent flaps, and there, 100m further down, was a Kombi Camper with the roof up. Warm orange light came
through the closed curtains as the occupants cooked and ate their dinner impervious to the howling wind and driving ocean spray that swept across our
thin nylon camp. After dinner, they would relax on a comfortable full-length bed while I made do with my damp sleeping bag on a farty air mattress in
a sodden nylon tent.
Bugger that.
Kombi Campmobiles are the only way to fly !
