tig welder for body work
I have noticed that the new DC tig welders are getting cheaper and was wondering if anyone has used a tig for repairing body work, rust etc? I had a
mig a few years back but found if you don't use it for about 6 months the feed used to stick and drive me nuts. Swear I would not own one again .

I use gas mig for all panel.
And arc for chassis and frame(jigs).
But will be crossing to tig aswell for more delicate welding in body sections.
Great,once you get the hang of it.

For metal finishing and real nice welds, a Henrob torch is real handy.
TIG is good because you can also use it for other applications.
MIG is good for higher tensile welds on vehicle chassis and also plug/ spot welding
Personally I use a MIG, because I have one. I am real interested in getting a Henrob to do more custom bodywork and metal finishing.

TIGs are amazing, played with one but thats it. Finish is superb!
hard to master though

I mainly use a MIG because thats what I have. I would use an oxy if I had one at home for the welds which you can get to the backside of for
panelbeating. Oxy welds stay soft and pliable and you can get a near perfect flatness after panelbeating. That is of course if you can get to it
though. Otherwise it is MIG for stuff that is difficult to get at - though MIG welds tend to work harden a bit and go stiff, if you beat them too
much they can crack and you have to start over again.
