difficulties starting...?
anybody else have this problem with their EJ20's?
My EJ20TT (when cold) needs about 8-10 tries before she starts and when (slightly) warm she starts up first time every time.
could the problem be caused by not having a VSS installed yet?

I seriously doubt it ,when you aren't moving there wouldn't be a signal for the ECU anyway... Could it be a faulty temperature sensor?

what starter are you using?
I've had issues on and off with starters not having enough guts to turn mine over when hot. In the end I have a dedicated earth strap going from the
negative pole on the battery to one of the starter bolts. It works great now.

I'll put an extra ground wire on the starter and hopefully that'll solve it, thanks for the tip pete wood.
this is the starter I'm using, it's a high torque one that is smaller then stock so it'll clear the primary turbo.

I had this exact problem when i didnt have the START signal from the key switch going to the ECU. Its purpose is to give a bit of extra fuel when
cranking to help it fire up. When it was warm it would start instantly.

Nah, mine is N/A so the pins are different, but just before it goes into the ECU (10cm or so) it will be a fat heavy gauge wire (same size that goes
to the starter solenoid). This is assuming the EJ20TT is the same. Mine was RED/Yellow. Do you have a wiring diagram? it should show it (also goes
through the clutch or inhibitor switch so you can't start it in gear)
