Does anyone know the history of this Kombi?

Hi everyone. Can anyone identify this once pristine 1976 Bay window Kombi Camper. I bought it at auction a week ago here in Townsville. It has a 2 litre fuel injected Type 4 motor. Was well kitted out and has a 3 way fridge with gas cooker on top. Its pretty well munted now but I was wondering if anyone knows the history of it. I think it was crash recovered in Bowen NQ. Were the occupants ok? What did they hit?

The seat is still mounted in place and the seat back is just tilted forward in picture. There is still some leg room on drivers but not much on the passengers side, I hope no one was sitting in that seat.
