Q on the solenoid valve canister

I was told by a mechanic that this canister catches fuel fumes and lets them return to the engine as a liquid on a regular basis but I just read a Diagnisis EGI PDF file and it's called a solenoid valve canister there.

The mechanic told me I could just get rid of the canister and plug the 2 lines since it was only for better emision but if it has something to do with the turbo's I'd better leave it on.

Should I leave it or get rid of it?

If you have no emissions to think about just junk it, not enough space as there is!
