I have an old VW America advertisement at home that said a complete 1200cc 40hp engine weighed 198 pounds - which is 90 kg in real measurements. That included all the external hardware.

A 1500cc engine is somewhat bigger and heavier. If we allow say an extra 10%, that comes to around 100 kg or so.

This is the best engine weight site I have found.

http://www.angelfire.com/ar/dw42/engfyi.htm

I think you'd be looking at a little over 100kg.

I can lift a 1600dp without carbs, alternator etc, but with internals, heads etc. 2 of us can lift and carry a fully assembles 1600dp including alternator exhuast etc. so about 90 to 100 kg's

A complete 1600dp engine - ready to go in the car - is 250lb.

That's weighed - not guessed.

Which is 113.6 kg.

No doubt a 1500cc engine would be a little lighter, especially with no exhaust as David originally asked.
