WTB: Cheap reliable car with RWC in Melbourne

My sister inlaw/outlaw lives in Melbourne and needs a cheap reliable vehicle with RWC for under 3 Grand (the more under the better). It doesn't matter what brand (but no Holden Camiras thanks !!) as long as it's a 4 cyl and mechanically in good nick

If you have anything OR know of a good jigger up for grabs - please let me know.

She likes VW Golfs - so would be a bonus if someone is aware of a goodun out there

Hey mate,
If you would like to spend a bit more money for a very reliable car & dont want to spend any money touching it up and fixing it, i would suggest you spend a bit more money! i do currently have a VW Golf late 1997 model for sale, its an mk3, and its only done almost 72,000kms. But im looking for about 11, or 10k for it. its in awsome nic to. see my other post and tell e what you think man.

Like any car that is second hand, ultimatley they are all a guess whether they are reliable or not.

A Camira can actually be reliable. Magna I wouldn't put my hopes on.

Daihatsu's are well known to be very fuel efficient and have less inherent problems than some cars of similar age. Small and tinny too.

Can't go too wrong with a Corolla.

To illustrate what the word Oxymoron means I have always used the example "RELIABLE CAMIRA" :P

For what it's worth, I'd second the Daihatsu. I had an early 3 cyl years ago and the damn thing was the best car I've owned (in terms of reliability, economy etc). They are probably one of the most underrated small cars out there, and can be had for a bargain price (esp considering Daihatsu are pulling out of Australia for now). Spare parts backup shouldnt be a problem though.

As long as there's a bonefide service history with the car, you cant go wrong with the 3 cyl daihatsu's..cheap too.
