May be a kombi stove top....!
but looks like some sort of off road sump protector , a must for all you mud bashin freaks out there.

Thats a factory sump guard for a type 1 case, I have them in book somewhere, they may have come on country buggies.

if you refer to your "Modifications for difficult journeys hand book" you will find the tech drawing for this part, the sump guard for type
1 engines,as well as a whole lot of other nifty bash guards mods and tips.
