Boot seal

I am putting a new boot seal in my 74L. Is it best to slide it from one end or is it better to push it in from the side? Iam having problems getting it in. Any tricks or hints?

Been a few years since I did mine!

Once your old seal is out, clean the metal channels where the new seal will go. Fix any rust problems now. Paint the area if necessary.

When you are ready to put your new front bonnet seal in, start at the corners. They are the fat moulded pieces, and will have little extrusions on the underside that fit into small holes in the body. Push the corners into place, and reach under and gently pull the extrusions through to seat the corner rubber. Do both corners - the rubber in between will stretch.

To get the rest in, you just need a flat paint scraper, say 5cm across, and a bit of lube. Soap and water works but I would avoid getting water in there. Glycerine is better, so use KY jelly or similar. Use the scraper to gently push the round beading under the metal lip. It should pop in without much difficulty - in fact in parts you may have to tap the metal down slightly to grip the rubber.

Good luck!

Bix,
Is that front or rear?
On my'73 I slid the rear in with a little armourall.
Can't quite remember the front, but I'm sure I slid that one in also. Can't remember what I did in the corners as Phil mentioned?
If some of the metal has been bent down over the years making it tight, you may need to prize it open slightly.
