Three years in the making.
Hi all, here is my 78 Cab.
Bought it three years ago from a guy in Queensland, and only got it registered on the 28th of December. I went OS the next day so it was a struggle to
get it done!
Due to changes in some registration rules it had to be registered by the end of last year so just made it!
The car is still not finished with the wheels and petrol tank still needing powder coating. The interior is not yet finished too but that can be
looked at when I get back.
Originally from California, it had its FI removed. I then bought a second hand system of ebay and put it on. Runs fine except the cold start injector
is stuffed so no start ups in winter at the moment.
I certainly underestimated the work required to get an imported car registered, including getting the conversion signed off.
You may see it ad DOV this year if finished by then.
Cheers

A Triple Black by the looks of it! 1978 saw a minmal build of the Cabs come out in the triple black scheme.....black colour, black hood, black seats.
There was a also a Triple White put out too....but I need to check what year they came out.
Do you have Aircon as well? I've got it in mine, but it needs a regas. I find no problems with the FI, and with all of the Cal polution gear, it is
certainly a different note to a standard exhaust. You'll also find the heater boxes are different (they changed in 1976), so all the exhaust pipework
is different - have a good look underneath and you'll see how it all reroutes through. What this means is that no standard extractor will fit, so if
you go down that road in the future, you'll need a full custom system. Keep the 98 Ron up into it, and you'll get some great economy and power.
Well done on getting your ride on the road, and enjoy summer!

This car is no 'official' triple black! Squizy, it actually was originially a bit like your car. It was 'Mars Red' originally before I made the
terrible choice to go for black. Well, what a colour to clean!
I bought the car as LHD and converted it myself. Bought another L-Bug from cam on this site so use as parts for it. Used the front struts from the
aussy car as it had discs and the cab originally came with drums up front.
No aircon at the moment, I have it sitting underneath the house at the moment in a few boxes, just didnt get around the time to do install it.
How different does the exhaust sound? I got such a surprise when the engine started. As for those heat exchangers, mine had a bit of rust in them and
I though of replacing them. Bugger that, they were about 150US each and then shipping which would be huge since they are so heavy. I managed to get a
NOS muffler which was good as this car has the small Californian muffler with the cat converter. Unfortunately I dont have any good pictures of the
car with me as im overseas but the exhaust system looked great once sand blasted and painted.
Here are the only other pics I have.
