if you want your stuff to look old, get your signs cut as a stencil in spraymask or friskit etc. Spraymask is cheap, any signwriter can get it , its not as sticky as vinyl. If you want your sign inside a box or circle etc( like mine is), work out your size and mask it out useing the masking tape like a boarder. Brush on your background colour keeping it reasonably thin and uneven. Use only matt waterbase house paint, and only use old style dirty looking colours. after an hour it should be dry so get a red scotchbrite pad and using it WITHOUT water start sanding it back so it goes dull and starts rubbing through to orig paint so it looks worn out.(before you brush the colour on, remember to sand the orig paint so it will stick.Scotchbrite should be fine for this)keep sanding background colour till it suits your taste, and savour the moment cause it should be starting to look real cool.
Now get your spray mask stencil and position it inside the box and push it on real well, before you pull off the application tape(carefully). You should now be looking at a perfect stencil.Brush on your letters in the same way you did the box, one coat uneven. ceiling white is perfect for this, and cheap. Now with the stencil still in place start sanding again make it look REAL worn out , sand off entire corners of letters etc the shittier it looks the cooler it is. Now remove the stencil and the background masking and give it some finishing touches with the scotchbrite. Now take it for a spin cause its one cool mutha fuckin van.

Bye the way, a suggestion for a brandname, TAA airlines with some old letterin on the doors with a Mascot address and old phone number.
Hope it helped, Josh.
