Exhaust studs

hey there, whats the correct,as you see it method of extracting stuffed exhaust studs.I was going to use the (weld a nut on the stud and ring spanner it off method),but then i started thinking (sometimes a mistake),that the stud might expand and crack the head. And then i thought (as above) what if i stuck the head in a bucket of water with the stud protuding out and then welded (giant heatsink),well am i overthinking this, opinions people, thanks Mick.:P

It shouldnt crack as the metal around the stud is pretty heavy... can you lock two nuts onto the stud against one another and undo the lower on this works for me when you have a little thread to work with.

soak some penetration fluid as well before trying and a little heat will help.

Dave's right, it will not crack, done this heaps of times. Don't put the head in water.
Keep thinking and you may work out that the exhausts have been running red hot on your engine.
