Great Sound/Heat insulation source

I bought some 25mm thick x 440mm wide x about 2-2.5m long sheets of foam from Reverse Garbage (Details below - a great place to browse). They receive a weekly delivery of the stuff and sell it by the kilogram! It is amazingly cheap. One side has aluminium foil (aluminized-mylar) and the other has a peel-off plastic that rerveals a very good adhesive.

I have used it as sound deadening (and some thermal insulation) in my Transporter.

I can't recommend it highly enough for these purposes.

They also have another type of sound insulation that has a lead foil on one side! VERY serious. Lots of other foam too.

FWIW - I hope it is useful to someone else too.

Dave

I THINK it is a polyurethane foam.

Tried lighting it with a match - and after a bit of coaxing, yes it is - FLAMMABLE.

The value of this answer probably depends on why you were asking. I would reckon that if there was a chance of the door and wall panels being on fire, or the area behind my radiator, there is some chance that the damage would already have been done to MY van. There is plenty of other stuff in a camper that would start burning first, so I think I'll keep using it.

Actually, the foil would keep the foam cool for longer, so that's a plus!

IF the question was because you are a pyro, then I think there are cheaper ways to get a fire going.

FWIW

hey

as good as it seems to be and at a good price as you say, one thing comes to mind. foam absorbs and traps water, in the long run you'll end up with rotting, bad smelling and the potential to create rust. in my car, i only use dynamat extreme used in car audio and any accomplished car audio expert would tell you dynamat is the way to go. it may be alot more expensive but in the long run it is worth it.

Instead of dynamat extreme I highly reccoment RAAMaudio's RAAMmat BXT.

Read about it on http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com
