NON vw question..Ford related
sorry, but someone might know. I also have a Falcon 1991 EA auto (my wife's car). When driving slow and turning shrply (into the driveway for
example and on full wheel lock) there is a noise from the wheel that is closest to the area turning into which sounds like a tyre rubbing or a balloon
getting rubbed...sorry only thing I can think of in the 'what does it sound like' department. (though it isn't these things) It has
power steering. Anyone know what it is?
thanks in advance, Ian

check yr power esteering fluid level as well... it uses most fluid when of full lock so the pump may be running dry as well.

Check the power steering pump belt. The squealing noise is the belt slipping. Might need tightening.

Go with the belt....
power steering on the falcons are known for them...
And try not to put it on full lock.... it puts a huge load on the pump and inturn loads the belt.... when you are driving in a straight line the pump
bypasses the steering rack.
Only when you turn it starts to use the power assistance.
At low engine revs the pump is not turning as fast and is trying to pump as much as it can....
Might be too much info... but it is good to know...

my gf has a honda accord with power steering, and it makes a similar sound at/near full lock at low revs. it's been checked out by the mechanics
a couple of times who can't find anything wrong, they say that sometimes power steering is just noisy. If the things people mentioned above are
all OK, your wife might have to just put up with it!

It sounds like a common problem with that era of Fords - the belt slipping. Use belt grip or brouwn sugar to eliminate the slip (don't try this
with a Holden, it can break the belt or even speed the demise of the pump.)

Don't want to sound silly, but maybe it's the tyre rubbing. Just get under there and have a look for signs of rubbing.
The power steering will make noises even when your not moving, you said it makes it when moving slowly which sounds more like something is rubbing.
trying to force a power steering car past full lock can even make the engine start knocking at idle.
