Hydraulic clutch or cable?

I have been toying with the idea of converting my semi auto to stick shift. I thought of using a hydraulic clutch pedal set up as seen in a lot of off roaders in the states.

Has anyone done one of these? I dont want to try welding the cable tube in but i have been quoted $150 - $250 by some dub workshops. This will only double if i try it and bugger it up!!!

I have all the parts required, its just the tube i need to fit. Can anyone help???

THANKS

yr better off getting a tube welded into the tunnel for the clutch cable.. its pretty easy when you have done before.

I've seen a hydrolic clutch conversion in a splitty. Worked well and as I'm told just as great on a bug.

It was done by Custom Bugs and Buses.

The complete conversion process is on the following site.

http://www.claydons.demon.  co.uk/beetle/autostick/index.html

The clutch tube is the only tricky part and it's not too hard, but you need a hatch cut in the top of the tunnel just behind the pedal cluster and another on the left side of the tunnel just behind the hand brake assembly - for the welds needed to hold it in place (the rearmost weld is exposed in the hatch under the rear seat).

I have a 68 semi-auto converted to manual by a PO, and it works fine, although the rear weld was not heavy enough and cracked (making a very spongey clutch), but rewelding fixed it easy enough - took me about 1/2 hour.

Hydraulic clutch or cable?

Thanx for the link. It dosent look as hard as i thought it would be . Im going to give it a go myself. It appears the master cylinders will faul the bulkhead so that option is out for now.

Thanx again.
