Help - gearbox trouble?

Hi there,

I've owned a 1970 Bug and now i own a 71Super.
it isn't normal to have to have to shift into a top gear then shift into reverse to get your bug reversing ay? [on the odd time it will go straightto reverse though...] usually when i try to go straight to reverse it crunches and on the occational drive i have trouble shifting into all the gears... any1 know why and how to fix this prob?
tks.

Cheers,
Leasha.

Sounds more like a clutch disengagement problem. How much pedal freeplay do you have? Should be about 25mm.

Cheers Dave

Sorry for the delay in reply.

yeah, its about 25mm.

any other things you can think of it might be?
i don't know much about mechanics - i have worked on bugs though, but just giving them a service and changing gearbox etc... but could the shifter need adjusting? would that help?

tks,
Eleasha.

Sounds like Your clutch needs adjusting ....
Its NOT disengaging completely.....
Your cable may have stretched.....
the adjustment is on the LHS above the rear axle....
Do up the nut a couple of turns....

I hope this is of some help Eleasha...

would it be the same kinda trouble when it comes to the situation of a bug not going into 2nd and just making crunch noises?

(tis a prob with my mates supa bug, and we aren't puttin it in reverse or anything, but trying to get it into 2nd.
