Insurance !!!
Hello peeps.
Right need advice on insurance for my bug.
What companies are good bad cheap expensive !!!
All the usual gen would be great thanks.
Want to get it insured proper like !

Just a quick administrivia note: please keep replies to "good" companies only. There will be more than enough good companies to try, without
getting us into the pooh with *really* *really* big companies who have retained legal staff.
On to my answer:
I find Shannons good for the older stuff. I've had no problems with AAMI for my Echo and then my New Beetle and subsequently my house. But
I've not had to claim for anything, so basically...

from speaking with shannons staff they seem very good but theres that one little catch. the car must be garaged when not in use, thats where i am
stuck at the moment,looking for a shed.......

Does anybody know who wil do a agreed value for a beetle. I only seem able to get market value. Shannons wouldn't talk to me last time, said I
was to young!
Iam also looking into insurance at the moment, 20yr male, car garaged, fixed value and I don't want to spend $1000+ for insurance. ands
can't seem to find anything |

tis very hard shannons wont take u under 25 i think but they are the best for older cars

NRMA are actually quite good. But no one besides Shannons will do twin Webers, cam and bigger cubes.
For some STRANGE reason cam changes seen to be a sticker the most. Now that can be a hard one to check.
NRMA "I THINK" will do twin Kads. I think the ruling is they will do "twin carbs". When i tried to explain twin 2bbls they just
went weak at the knees.
They they say well ...... tell us "what you have done" The old catch 22. They wont tell you what you CAN do!
As stated before Shannons wont touch you if you park on the street.
The ones that will wont touch you if you are modified.
My deal is insure with one of the majors cause comprehensive is just a bit more than 3rd party - gut treat it as 3rd party and theft only

but luckily (I guess ) am old dude.

Use the internet to check them out,
I did quick comparison recently for house ins and saved heaps,

Shannons will take people under 25 (I was 23 when I started with them). I think 20 might be their age limit.
If you car is relatively stock then racq / aami whatever will give you pretty good rates if your happy with market value.

easy as for insurance
i got my insurance from shannons. On my super modified blown kombi. I'm only 22 myself and they didn't have an issue. I just had to put an
immobliser on it from the list that they chose, price around $400 but i've got a mate who is an auto electrician, they even gave me discounts for
mutliple cars, i also had a type 3 wagon modified into a ute, and i'm just about to get insurance off them for my Baja.
I heard "just cars insurance" are good also

As above, all I had to do was have a valuation on the twin cab done [show all your receipts to the valuer when he comes]. A bit dearer but

I had Shannons when I was 18, they were the only company that would insure me for my Cordia. Say the word "Turbo" and "Under 25"
to an insurance company and watch them run.

You need to see an insurance broker. Call some local car clubs and ask for their advice [Vintage guys are often strongest.] Most will help you even
though you aren't a member, 'cos they want to support the companies that support them. Be ready for large premiums, however (agreed value
that actually pays up is getting rarer and rarer.)

And a tip, dont go to soft on the agreed value.
If your VW was totally destroyed or stolen what would it really cost to get back what you had. Accessories, rare panels, lights.
Man that stuff really starts to add up.

i agree with all those who say shannons. i have never had an issue with them (but i haven't made a claim either).
they were the only ones who would insure me at the time... 24yo with a modified 60's car (my beetle of course)
plus they will insure cars off the road being restored or awaiting restoration.
plus when i first got my insurance with them the guy boosted my no claim to the top level because it was just before christmas and said "add a
camber compensator and some dellortos (to the mods i had already done) and it will really go, that is what i did to mine"

I'm with NRMA Vintage and veteran dept. Was cheaper than shannons especially with multi policy discounts.

i will be facing the insurance delema soon when i first want to register my panelvan for my first car!!! not sure what i wont to do weather i should
insurure it under my parents name (u know all the crap that gopes with it) or finding someone who will insure it without me going dead broke etc
shannons knocked back my bro last year when he wanted to insure his bug!! i will contact the vintage car club here !!
